I love the radio!

Learn more about my weekly radio show on AshevilleFM and my experience as a radio DJ.

My current radio show: In the Box

I spin (mostly) 45s every Friday morning.  I love 45s. They are my perfect medium for DJing. They were the standard on commercial radio stations from the 50s through the 70s. Working in those old commercial limits on a basically no-limits station, gives me a chance to explore the “anything goes” spirit of free-form while keeping it flowing and accessible. With singles, you can access everything from the deeply moving to the extremely silly, all in two or three minutes.

My show is weekly, every Friday at 11am

From rhythm and blues and soul to punk, country, rock and roll, Latin, jazz, 80s, funk, disco and more!

Access years’ worth of steamable shows on the Asheville FM app (Apple App Store | Google Play Store)

My history in radio

I got my start as a DJ volunteering for community radio in 1995, and have been creating radio shows ever since. I love DJing live, but I can’t live without my radio! Community Radio is the greatest, because unlike podcasts, you have the randomness of the airwaves, and there’s a real romance to the idea that anyone can tune in and find you at any moment. Working in non-commercial radio means you can pretty much express yourself within the framework of FCC regulations but without any other limits. You’re playing for an audience but you’re by yourself. It’s the perfect way to DJ.
